Culture and History

Khojaly has an ancient history dating back to the era of Caucasian Albania. Archaeological artifacts from the Bronze Age have been discovered in the area. The city was an important stop on trade routes connecting the Caucasus with the Middle East.

One of the most significant historical events associated with Khojaly is the Khojaly Genocide of 1992, when many civilians lost their lives during the Karabakh conflict. Today, the city is a symbol of national remembrance for Azerbaijan.

  • Gatykh – a fermented dairy product commonly used in local dishes.
