History and Development

Absheron-Sharab OJSC was established in 1967 as the Mehdiabad Grape Processing Plant. In 2003, the enterprise was renamed and restructured as a joint-stock company. Since 2007, the winery has undergone major modernization with European bottling lines, fermentation tanks, and oak barrel aging equipment.

In 2009, the winery planted 70 hectares of its own vineyards. In 2012, a Bulgarian winemaker was invited to improve quality. By 2018, Absheron-Sharab had become one of the largest wine exporters in Azerbaijan.

Terroir and Production

The winery is located in the village of Mehdiabad, near Baku. Its production complex spans around 10,000 square meters, including cellars, fermentation and bottling halls, and warehouses.

Grapes are cultivated from both European (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Chardonnay) and local varieties (Saperavi, Madrasa, Bayan Shira, Rkatsiteli). A certified laboratory ensures strict quality control, and the facility is ISO 22000 certified.

Product Portfolio

The winery produces more than 70 types of alcoholic beverages, including:

• Still Wines — dry, semi-dry, and semi-sweet:

  • White: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Rkatsiteli, Bayan Shira

  • Red: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Saperavi, Madrasa

  • Rosé: Grenache Rosé

• Sparkling Wines — both traditional and reserve methods

• Fruit Wines — pomegranate, quince, cornelian cherry

• Spirits — brandies (aged in oak), vodka, whisky, gin, calvados, liqueurs, and fruit-based distillates
