Château Mukhrani

Château Mukhrani — winery, palace-and-park ensemble, and visitor complex near Tbilisi

Overview
Château Mukhrani is a historic estate of the Mukhrani princes and one of central Georgia’s most renowned wineries. The property unites late-19th-century architecture, a manicured park, modern cellars, and a mature visitor offer: guided tours, tastings, food programs, and private events.

History
The estate took shape in the late 19th century under Prince Ivane Mukhranbatoni, who brought the European château model to Georgia and established winemaking traditions in Mukhrani. After the Soviet period, the château concept was revived in the 2000s with restored palace buildings, parterres, replanted vineyards, and new production facilities.

Architecture and park
A neoclassical palace with French-château elements features symmetrical façades, enfilade halls, and grand ballrooms. The grounds include a formal park with alleys and lawns, gazebos, and an outdoor reception area—popular for private and corporate occasions.

Terroir and vineyards
Mukhrani Valley (Kartli) has a moderately warm continental climate, marked diurnal shifts, and light to medium soils (loams, alluvial deposits). Vineyard altitudes help retain acidity and deliver a clean aromatic profile. Total plantings are around 100 hectares.

Grapes and styles
— Local whites: Chinuri, Goruli Mtsvane — dry, mineral, citrus-herbal.
— Local reds: Tavkveri, Shavkapito — elegant, with red-berry fruit and spice.
— International: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot — classic European approach using stainless steel and oak.
— The portfolio covers still wines, barrel-aged reserves, special cuvées, and traditional-method sparkling (seasonal).

Tours and tastings
• Palace and park tour: family history, interiors, and a stroll along the alleys.
• Winery and cellars: production, barrel rooms, and style overview.
• Tastings: from core to extended flights, comparisons of local and international varieties, food pairings with Georgian cuisine.
• Seasonal add-ons: picnics in the park, themed dinners, private tastings in historic halls.

Events and MICE
Venues support weddings, gala dinners, product launches, and corporate off-sites: a ballroom, terraces, marquee setups in the park, and intimate cellar rooms. On-site catering, technical support, and coordination are available.

Practical information
• Location: Mukhrani village, Kartli—around 30–40 minutes by car from central Tbilisi via Mtskheta.
• Time on site: 2–3 hours for tour plus tasting; half-day if adding a park walk or dinner.
• Best season: April–June and September–October; in summer, visit mornings or evenings.
• Tips: book ahead, especially on weekends; wear comfortable shoes for the park; bring a light layer for the cellars.

Half-day plan
Arrival → palace and park tour → winery and cellar visit → guided tasting (Kartli natives vs. international grapes) → dinner or light set on the terrace → photos and a final stroll.
